The death confirmation was confirmed by her mother Erica Robinson who announced and made the announcement via their official Twitter and Facebook accounts on which she published the news concerning her death on the 3 February. She posted her announcement and said that her 18 year old daughter was killed by an unidentified gun. On her post, Erica Robinson shared a caption of her t-shirt and a photo she took along with her deceased father. They appeared to be in a group in matching red t-shirts and officers determined that Gatlin was shot at Barnes Street which is in Jackson and the whole incident was reported to have occurred around 8:40 pm on the evening of Thursday.
